Oak Hill Cottage is more than a surviving Gothic Revival landmark. The Mansfield house was built in 1847, and its furnishings, clothing, photographs and other Victorian artifacts belonged to the family that lived there. 🚧 Road projects affect several county routes

Published Friday: ODOT says nightly lane closures continue on Interstate 71 between the Ashland County line and State Route 13 from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

U.S. Route 42 remains closed between Cedarwood Drive and Gables Boulevard for a culvert replacement, while State Route 314 is closed north of Millsboro Road. Both projects are weather-dependent, with posted detours in place. Read the complete Richland County construction update.

🇺🇸 Communities mark 25 years since September 11

Earlier previews, happening today: Shelby High School students and staff are joining city emergency personnel for an educational program and memorial stair climb honoring September 11 victims and first responders. See the WMFD announcement.

In Ontario, the high school Key Club and Kiwanis Club planted 512 American flags outside the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging. See the Ontario tribute.

🏙️ Shelby considers revitalization district

New Friday report: Shelby City Council has formally received an application for a proposed revitalization district. The filing begins the process for the city to consider establishing the district as a tool for community and business development. Read the Shelby News Reporter.

🚌 Madison warns of possible bus disruptions

Thursday carryover: Madison Local Schools is facing a severe shortage of bus drivers that could force the district to cancel some morning or afternoon routes during the school year.

Superintendent Rob Peterson is asking families to develop backup transportation plans. Route changes or cancellations will be distributed through the district’s calamity-day notification system. Read the WMFD report.

🌿 County supports proposed wetland preserve

Thursday carryover: Richland County commissioners endorsed an effort by West Creek Conservancy to purchase and preserve 209 acres in Weller Township.

About 60% of the proposed Black Fork Mohican Wetland Preserve floods when the river backs up. Development and camping would be prohibited, but the conservancy intends to provide public access to the property. Read the conservation report.
