🎭 Mansfield Playhouse opens its 101st season

Updated Thursday: The Mansfield Playhouse will begin its 101st season Friday with “Dear Evan Hansen,” featuring Clear Fork graduate and former Marine Evan Wertz in the title role.

The eight-member production explores social anxiety, grief, isolation and the importance of seeking help. Performances are scheduled for September 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 8:00 PM, followed by a 2:30 PM matinee September 20. The show contains adult themes and some profanity. 🎂 Ontario celebrates resident’s 100th birthday

Published Thursday: Ontario Mayor Josh Bradley honored Christine Arnett with a proclamation marking her 100th birthday.

The proclamation was presented August 20 and thanked Arnett for being part of the Ontario community for 55 years. See the WMFD feature.

Shelby students plan September 11 stair climb

Published Thursday: Shelby High School students and staff will join city emergency personnel Friday for an educational program and memorial stair climb.

The gathering will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and honor the first responders and others who died that day. Read the WMFD announcement.

👥 Pilot program supports employees who are caregivers

Wednesday carryover: The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging and Mansfield manufacturer Gorman-Rupp have launched a pilot program for employees balancing work with caring for an older relative or friend.

Participating employees can complete an optional survey and connect with caregiver resources. The Area Agency hopes feedback from the pilot will help expand the program to other regional employers. Read the program announcement.

🥕 Farmers market and garden class fill the afternoon

The North End Farmers Market runs from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 486 Springmill Street. Vendors offer produce, meat, honey, fruit, baked goods and plants, with live music and activities also planned. See the market details.

Kingwood Center Gardens will offer a native-landscaping class from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Participants will learn to identify and use native trees, shrubs and perennials. Registration is $8 for members and $12 for nonmembers. View the Kingwood class information.
