🌳 Richland County fun fact
The nation’s largest state genealogical society is headquartered just outside Bellville. The Ohio Genealogical Society operates the Samuel D. Isaly Library at 611 State Route 97 West. Today, the library is hosting the American Revolution Experience traveling exhibit from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
🇬🇷 Greek Festival begins its 46th year
Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church will welcome visitors from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM today and Saturday for Mansfield’s 46th annual Greek Festival. The menu includes lamb shanks, pastitsio, stuffed grape leaves, roast chicken, Greek village salad, baklava and honey-covered pastry balls. Greek beer, wine, coffee and ouzo will also be available. Admission is $2, with children 12 and younger admitted free.
🎶 Downtown music and sprint cars fill Friday night
The August Final Friday concert will run from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM at the Brickyard, 108 N. Main St. The free event features three musical acts, with refreshments available and lawn chairs encouraged. Across town, Mansfield Speedway will host GLSS 360 sprint-car racing from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM at 400 Crall Road East.
🏫 Investigated school threats found not credible
Late Thursday: Authorities investigated separate reports involving Bellville Elementary and Lexington Local Schools. Bellville police determined that the reported elementary-school threat was not credible. Lexington officials said law enforcement promptly investigated a reported threat involving a student and found no known danger to students, employees or the school community. Both districts said established safety procedures were followed.
⛽ Sheetz opens its first Richland County store
Late Thursday: Hundreds of vehicles filled the parking lot as Sheetz opened a 24-hour location at 1075 Ashland Road. The company’s first Richland County store employs about 30 people and is its 141st Ohio location. Sheetz donated $2,500 each to Special Olympics Ohio and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. The store will also provide unsold ready-to-eat food each week to the Mansfield Salvation Army.
🧂 County secures winter road salt for local governments
Late Thursday: Richland County commissioners approved a contract with Morton Salt for as much as 6,700 tons of road salt at $93.18 per ton. The agreement will supply participating villages and townships, but not Mansfield, Shelby or Washington Township, which arrange their own contracts. Local governments participating in the county purchase must buy at least 90 percent of their requested allocation
🏠 Roof work closes Shelby utility drive-through
Shelby’s Utilities Office drive-through window remains closed today while roof work continues. The city said the lane will reopen after the project is completed and the area has been cleared. The closure affects only the drive-through window.
