The sounds of the season seem to be all around us; it can be heard on radio stations, store speakers, and television advertisements.
Christmas has been celebrated through music for centuries. One significant part of that history is the Christmas Oratorio of composer Camille Saint Saens, a work first performed on Christmas Day in 1858. Mansfielders will have the extrordinary opportunity to listen to this work in person when the Oratorio is presented at St. Peters Church downtown.
The presentation takes place on Sunday, December 11 at 3:00 PM inside the magnificent sanctuary of the church, and will be given in collaboration with Mansfield’s own Mid Ohio Opera Company. Performing will be a chorus combining St. Peter’s traditional choir with choirs from First Congregational Church and the OSU Mansfield.
Soloists will include Heidi Kirschenheiter Vega, Abigail Harshbarger, Lori Turner, Joel Vega, and Patrick Clineage. Conductor will be Dr. David Tovey, who will also be at the keyboard of St. Peter’s Schantz Christ the King organ.
Admission is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be accepted for support of St. Peter’s Music Series.
