We would like to let you in on something we have been planning for some time.

Changes are coming to 1812Blockhouse as our site moves toward its 10-year anniversary this September. When we launched in 2016, we were in many ways a successor to MidOhioLive, Richland County’s first digital-focused news operation. Since then, we have grown, changed, adapted and overcome more than a few obstacles. Today, 1812Blockhouse remains the only daily updated, free-access news site in the county.

Over that same period, we have also come to recognize where our coverage is strongest. There are aspects of life here that we cover especially well, and that larger outlets such as the News Journal and Richland Source cover only occasionally. In the coming weeks, we are going to make that distinction more intentional.

To that end, two changes are ahead.

First, 1812Blockhouse will continue to collect and curate news from across Richland County. Each day, we will help readers find important local stories, including coverage that appears on other sites. That role will remain part of what we do. That said, we will no longer be providing independent coverage of general news.

Second, we will be launching an additional site, initially focused on Mansfield, that will be unlike any other site devoted to a city in Ohio.

We are truly excited about what is coming. The first change will be evident very soon, likely in the next 24-48 hours, and we will make sure readers have ample notice before the new site arrives, likely in late July. Note that none of these changes will apply to our sister publication, 1808Delaware, which will be pursuing a much different path.
