Mark your calendar for one of north central Ohio’s most distinctive community traditions as Willard prepares to host the 21st Annual Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment, a two-day event that blends education, performance, and hands-on history.

Held at Willard Middle School, the event runs from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 15, and 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, inviting visitors of all ages to step directly into the era of American independence.

Students Bring the Revolution to Life

At the heart of the event are Willard’s eighth grade students, who take on the role of historians and performers. Through reenactments and demonstrations, they recreate defining moments of the American Revolution, including:

  • The opening clashes at Lexington & Concord
  • The harsh winter encampment at Valley Forge
  • The decisive victory at Yorktown

Beyond the battlefield, students also showcase daily colonial life, offering demonstrations of 18th-century crafts, tools, and traditions. The result is an immersive experience that goes well beyond a typical school event.

Walk Through a Living Encampment

Visitors can explore a fully realized encampment, where period clothing, tents, and historical setups create the atmosphere of a Revolutionary War camp. The layout allows guests to move at their own pace, interacting with student interpreters and gaining a closer understanding of life in the late 1700s. This kind of experiential learning is what has made the Willard reenactment a regional draw for more than two decades.

Food, Community, and a Full-Day Experience

Food trucks will be on site throughout the event, making it easy to spend several hours or even a full day on the grounds. Whether you come for a specific reenactment or simply to explore, the event is designed to be both educational and enjoyable.

Get Involved

The organizers are also inviting community participation. Opportunities include:

  • Volunteering to support the event
  • Serving as a vendor
  • Participating as a historical demonstrator
