🧭 Local fun fact
Mansfield takes its name from a surveyor. When James Hedges, Jacob Newman and Joseph Larwill established the community in 1808, they named it for Jared Mansfield, the surveyor general of the United States. Nine years later, the settlement still consisted of just 20 houses and one store.
🚰 Lexington Avenue-area boil advisory lifted
Saturday update: Mansfield lifted the precautionary boil advisory affecting portions of Lexington Avenue, Crescent Road, Davis Road and Ruth Avenue, along with the Townview circles, Scholl Road and Sterkel Boulevard.
The city reported that all samples returned negative results confirming water purity. The announcement ends the advisory included in Friday’s brief. Read the October 17 clearance notice.
📦 Ontario schools receive truckload of supplies
Sunday report: Ontario Local Schools received a truckload of donated school supplies from School Specialty on Friday morning. Boxes filled a dozen pallets in the district’s bus garage. Superintendent Keith Strickler compared the arrival to Christmas morning as the district prepared to unpack the donation. Read the October 18 Richland Source report.
🏌️ Westbrook clubhouse earns national recognition
Friday announcement: Westbrook Country Club has received third-place recognition in Golf Inc.’s 2026 Clubhouse of the Year competition.
The Mansfield club’s expansion, unveiled in 2025, added dining, fitness and event spaces. Judges highlighted the arrival experience and sustainable design features, including stormwater infiltration areas, insulation and daylight-conscious window placement. Read the October 16 announcement.
