🏠 Shelby homebuyers can explore six planned houses

Friday report, happening today: An informational session for Shelby’s Welcome Home Ohio housing program runs from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in City Hall’s community conference room, accessible from 5 Water Street.

Six three-bedroom homes are planned, five on Second Street and one on Oak Street. Each is expected to sell for about $200,000, with state funding helping cover construction costs. Representatives will explain floor plans, income qualifications and the purchasing process. The program is open to qualifying buyers beyond first-time homeowners. 🪵 American Heritage Days brings history to South Park

Happening this weekend: The 10th annual American Heritage Days runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday and Sunday at South Park, 100 Brinkerhoff Avenue.

The free event features blacksmithing, open-hearth cooking, rope making, historical portrayals and civilian and military reenactments. 🍂 Prairie Peddler returns for its final weekend

Happening Saturday and Sunday: Prairie Peddler Festival concludes its 2026 run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day at 3170 State Route 97 near Butler.

Organizers list 220 vendors, nearly 30 food vendors, live entertainment and children’s activities. Admission is $12 for adults and $3 for children ages 6–12; younger children enter free. Parking is included. Plan your visit. Prairie Peddler Festival

🎾 Local tennis players compete for sectional titles

Friday report, continuing today: Division II girls sectional semifinals and finals begin at 9:00 AM at Shelby High School.

Ontario’s Ellie Dawson, Madison’s Kylie Carroll and Shelby’s Courtney Howarth have secured district berths in singles. All four remaining doubles teams represent Richland County, with players from Lexington, Ontario and Madison advancing. District competition begins October 8 at Port Clinton. 🐾 Colt hopes to find a home

Friday community feature: Colt, a five-year-old pit bull terrier mix, is the Mansfield News Journal’s Pet of the Week at the Richland County Dog Warden & Adoption Center.

Staff describe him as affectionate, good on a leash and comfortable with children and other dogs. His adoption fee is $199, and he is already neutered. Saturday meet-and-greet hours run from 10:00 AM to 1:45 PM. Contact the center to confirm he remains available. Meet Colt.
