Twenty-Eight Suspects Indicted After METRICH Drug Sweep

On Wednesday, November 6 the METRICH Enforcement Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), the Ohio State Highway Patrol Special Response Team (OSP-SRT), the Mansfield Division of Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a large scale drug sweep. METRICH Commander Lt. Jason Bammann stated that METRICH detectives targeted 28 suspects during this sweep and conducted a total of 2 search warrants. The 28 suspects were indicted by the Richland County Grand Jury on 56 counts of drug trafficking and other related charges. Read More

Richland Public Health Receives Drug Free Communities Grant

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has announced 150 new grants for its Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program. Richland Public Health will receive $125,000 per year, up to 10 years, in DFC grant funds. The DFC Program provides grants to community coalitions to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use. Recognizing that local problems need local solutions, DFC-funded coalitions engage multiple sectors of the community and employ a variety of environmental strategies to address local substance use problems. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and more than 4,200 national, tribal, and community law enforcement partners will hold another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26. Americans can take their pills (no liquids or needles) to one of over 5,600 collection sites across the country between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM local time. Major Drug Bust Yields Dozens Of Arrests, Federal Charges, Report Shares

A large-scale drug bust in Richland County and incorporating two operations has yielded dozens of arrests, WKYC3 in Cleveland reported this morning. According to the story, one 42 count indictment centers on fentanyl arriving from Detroit; the 61 count indictment other involves heroin, cocaine, and meth. Almost all of those indicted are from Mansfield or the surrounding area. Read More

Thursday Search Warrant Yields Meth, Heroin, Cocaine, Firearms, And Cash

On Thursday morning at approximately 9:00 AM, the METRICH Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Mansfield Division of Police and the Allied Special Operations Response Team (ASORT), served a drug related search warrant at 75 Helen Avenue in Mansfield. The search warrant was the result of a short term drug trafficking investigation after receiving several complaints of suspected drug activity in the neighborhood. Read More

New Drug Take-Back Bin Now Located At Avita Ontario Hospital

Residents of Ontario, Bucyrus, and the surrounding communities now have additional locations to drop off unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through a partnership with the METRICH Enforcement Unit, Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ontario Police Department, secure drug collection receptacles have been placed in the main lobbies of Avita Ontario Hospital and Bucyrus Community Hospital. Murder Suspect Arrested; Drug Cache Discovered During Arrest

On Tuesday about 7:40 PM, the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Deshawn A. Dowdell on a Murder warrant issued by the Mansfield Division of Police. The Mansfield Division of Police Major Crimes Unit had developed Deshawn A. Dowdell as a suspect in the homicide of Terrence T. Harris after a lengthy investigation. The homicide occurred on April 8, 2018 in the area of 1340 W. 4th St. in Mansfield. The arrest took place at 383 Wood St. Apt. #7 in Mansfield. During the arrest, NOVFTF Task Force Officers located numerous items of evidence related to drug trafficking and contacted the METRICH Enforcement Unit for further assistance. Read More

Mansfield Nonprofit Receives Opioid Education Grant

On Tuesday, the Cardinal Health Foundation announced that it has awarded over $3 million in grants to more than 70 nonprofit organizations to support local efforts to combat the opioid epidemic across Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. The grants are being made through the Cardinal Health Foundation's Generation Rx program and are funded by Cardinal Health's Opioid Action Program, launched last fall. Read More

METRICH Makes Drug Related Arrest In Mansfield

On Thursday, the METRICH Enforcement Unit closed out a short term drug trafficking investigation with the arrest of an individual from Detroit, Michigan who was staying at 155 E. First St. in Mansfield. METRICH detectives, with assistance from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, arrested and charged Ronell Batchelor with four (4) counts of Trafficking in Drugs-F4, two (2) counts of Possession of Drugs-F5 and one (1) count of Illegal Conveyance-F3.
