Law enforcement officials associated with the METRICH Enforcement Unit conducted a successful search of a Sherman Place residence on Thursday evening.
While the search was going on, the occupant, 27 year old Desanjay N. Taylor, lept from a second story window in an attempt to flee the scene.
The search netted 601 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 18.5 grams of suspected Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) wax, 36 grams of suspected cocaine, 140 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 20 grams of suspected marijuana. The street value of these drugs is over $70,000. More…

A Monday raid on the northwest side of Mansfield resulted in the arrest of three individuals, as well as the seizure of 24 grams of suspected heroin, 44 grams of suspected methamphetamines, 10 grams of suspected marijuana, other pills, $105 and drug paraphernalia.
The METRICH action at 814 Lenox Avenue resulted in three men being taken into police custody — James Brown, 27; Jeffrey Boehm, 32; and William Adkins, 38. The three are suspected of drug trafficking, possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Intelligence collected by METRICH detectives and the Patrol Bureau of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department resulted in a search warrant, which in turn led to the apprehension and seizure. More…

A METRICH operation on Monday, acting on search warrants, led to thousands of dollars seized from an accused drug trafficker.
The operation was carried out by METRICH, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Allied Special Operations Response Team (ASORT).
Lieutenant Jason Bammann said that the search warrants at two locations on Grace Street in Mansfield netted over nine ounces of crack cocaine, over 300 Percocet pills, and other miscellaneous drugs. The total street value of the drgs was over $40,000, Lt. Bammann indicated. More…

When $7.7 million in criminal justice agencies across Ohio was announced this week by the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS), Richland County was well represented among the recipients.
Local grants were obtained both from the Edward J. Bryne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant and the Violence Against Women Act grant programs.
The former grant, described by OCJS as allowing “… local and state governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on the needs and conditions of the jurisdictions and supports multijurisdictional drug task forces, school resource officers, drug, veteran and mental health courts, corrections projects, and justice technology initiatives in Ohio,” gave funding to the following: More…
On Wednesday, November 6 the METRICH Enforcement Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), the Ohio State Highway Patrol Special Response Team (OSP-SRT), the Mansfield Division of Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a large scale drug sweep.
METRICH Commander Lt. Jason Bammann stated that METRICH detectives targeted 28 suspects during this sweep and conducted a total of 2 search warrants. The 28 suspects were indicted by the Richland County Grand Jury on 56 counts of drug trafficking and other related charges. More…

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has announced 150 new grants for its Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program.
Richland Public Health will receive $125,000 per year, up to 10 years, in DFC grant funds.
The DFC Program provides grants to community coalitions to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use. Recognizing that local problems need local solutions, DFC-funded coalitions engage multiple sectors of the community and employ a variety of environmental strategies to address local substance use problems. A large-scale drug bust in Richland County and incorporating two operations has yielded dozens of arrests, WKYC3 in Cleveland reported this morning.
According to the story, one 42 count indictment centers on fentanyl arriving from Detroit; the 61 count indictment other involves heroin, cocaine, and meth. Almost all of those indicted are from Mansfield or the surrounding area. More…

On Tuesday about 7:40 PM, the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Deshawn A. Dowdell on a Murder warrant issued by the Mansfield Division of Police.
The Mansfield Division of Police Major Crimes Unit had developed Deshawn A. Dowdell as a suspect in the homicide of Terrence T. Harris after a lengthy investigation. The homicide occurred on April 8, 2018 in the area of 1340 W. 4th St. in Mansfield. The arrest took place at 383 Wood St. Apt. #7 in Mansfield. During the arrest, NOVFTF Task Force Officers located numerous items of evidence related to drug trafficking and contacted the METRICH Enforcement Unit for further assistance. More…
