Lexington is getting ready to welcome the holiday season with the 45th Annual Light Up Lexington ceremony on Monday, December 1 at 6:45 PM. The evening brings families downtown for a mix of tradition, community pride, and simple seasonal fun.

One of the highlights each year is the recognition of Lexington’s winter sports teams. Students from boys and girls basketball, bowling, swim team, and wrestling will be introduced, giving neighbors a chance to cheer them on as their seasons begin. It’s a small part of the program, but it carries a lot of hometown spirit.

The ceremony will also include the announcement of the annual poster contest winners. First through fourth graders create artwork for the event, with several winners selected at each grade level. The Mayor presents each student with a gift and certificate, and parents often bring their children along to see whether their names will be called.

Visitors can stop by to see the reindeer, which has become one of the evening’s most popular features. Downtown partners will again help mark the start of the season with a few touches of their own.

Before the lights come on, the Lexington Museum will host its Christmas open house beginning at 6:00 PM. Guests can enjoy cookies and mulled cider and take a few minutes to look through local history before joining the crowd outside.

Light Up Lexington always takes place on the Monday after Thanksgiving, offering a familiar and easy start to December. Anyone with questions can call 419.884.0272 or 419.884.0765 ext. 8.
