Hands-on December classes

The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library is turning its Main Library into a hands-on classroom this December. The goal is simple: give adults and teens a chance to build real confidence with everyday technology. Whether someone is opening Word for the first time or curious about crafting on a Cricut machine, the Learning Lab lineup offers an easy way to grow skills without pressure.

Word for Absolute Beginners

The month opens with Word – The Basics on Thu. Dec. 4 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. It’s designed for anyone who wants a patient introduction to creating and shaping a document. Participants learn how to make text behave the way they want, which solves a frustration most people have but rarely admit.

Getting Comfortable with Windows

On Fri. Dec. 5 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, Intro to Windows Desktop Computing steps in as a gentle orientation to a Windows-based computer. It’s meant for true beginners, and the library makes a point of keeping the pace steady. Some attendees may have used a mouse for years but never understood what the desktop is actually doing. This class fills that gap.

Word, Round Two

Word – Beyond the Basics follows on Thu. Dec. 11, again from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. This one moves up a notch. Quick Access Toolbar tweaks, proofing tools, autocorrect, and the mysteries of tabs and tables all come into play. It’s the kind of session where small skills unlock much bigger time savings.

Staying Safe Online with Android

Internet Safety for Android Phones arrives on Fri. Dec. 12 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Scam attempts get sharper each year, and many people don’t know the warning signs until they’ve already clicked. This class focuses on practical habits that make a real difference, especially for those who use their phones for banking, messaging, and everyday errands.

Crafting with Cricut

On Tue. Dec. 16 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, the library shifts to creativity with a beginner-friendly Cricut Workshop. Attendees learn their way around Cricut Design Space, try producing a vinyl decal, and leave with something they made themselves. It’s a low-stakes way to see whether this popular tool fits into a hobby or home project.

Word at Its Most Advanced

The month wraps with Word – Advanced on Thu. Dec. 18 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Headers, footers, margins, sections, and page numbers take the spotlight. These features can feel intimidating until someone shows how they actually work. After that, long documents start making much more sense.
