The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library is preparing to open two newly developed spaces designed to help residents learn, create, experiment, and build new skills.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening for the library’s new Creation Lab and newly constructed Learning Lab will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 5, at the Main Library, 43 W. Third St. in Mansfield.

A Place To Imagine And Make

The Creation Lab is being introduced as a do-it-yourself creative learning center, giving library customers access to tools and technology that can turn ideas into tangible projects. Equipment available in the space will include 3D printers, 3D pens, a Cricut machine, an embroidery machine, and other creative tools. While the lab is designed for hands-on use, library staff will be available to help customers get started, understand the equipment, and gain the confidence to work independently on future projects.

For patrons, that means the space can serve many purposes: trying out a new creative hobby, making a personalized gift, learning the basics of digital design, or simply exploring technology that may not be available at home.

Technology Classes In A New Setting

The newly constructed Learning Lab will continue to serve as the library’s center for technology classes, but now in a brighter and more modern setting. The space features natural lighting, additional room, and updated technology, creating a more flexible environment for instruction and hands-on learning.

Library Director Chris May said the project reflects both the library’s long-range planning and its evolving role in the community.

“We are excited to open this brand new creative space to the community,” May said. “The completion of this project aligns with our strategic plan to update library spaces by exploring ways to repurpose existing library spaces. It also supports our mission to provide innovative, relevant experiences for all ages to experience new technology as they imagine and create.”

Hours And Information

The Learning Lab will be open during regular Main Library hours: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The Creation Lab will initially be open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and will be closed on Sundays.
