Under the direction of Lori Turner, the Renaissance Theatre will host auditions for the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre (RYOT) production of H.M.S. Pinafore later this spring in downtown Mansfield.

Auditions will take place on Saturday, May 23 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday, May 24 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the theatre’s ballroom at 138 Park Avenue West. No appointments are required.

The opportunity is open to students in grades 2 through 12. Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of a Golden Age Broadway selection in their preferred key, accompanied by sheet music.

Rehearsals will begin in June and are scheduled for weekday evenings from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, along with Saturday sessions from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Performances of H.M.S. Pinafore are set for Saturday, June 27 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and Sunday, June 28 at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The production will be staged in Theatre 166 as part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series, with support from Buckeye Express Car Wash, Inc. All performances are free and open to the public.

RYOT offers young performers hands-on experience across all aspects of theatre, including acting, singing, dancing, and technical production. Participants work alongside experienced professionals in a structured but welcoming environment.

First performed in 1878 by the celebrated team of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, H.M.S. Pinafore remains one of the most enduring works in musical theatre. Set aboard a British naval vessel, the operetta blends romance, mistaken identity, and sharp social satire with memorable melodies that continue to resonate with audiences.
