There’s a new sense of energy inside Mifflin Elementary School—and it’s coming straight from the classroom.

Students at the Madison Local Schools building have captured the Prodigy Monthly State Championship for March, turning consistent daily effort into a statewide victory. The win has already made its mark physically, with a new championship banner now hanging in the gym alongside a collection of Prodigy-themed rewards celebrating the achievement.

At its core, the competition is simple but demanding: students answer as many math questions correctly as possible through the Prodigy platform. Over the course of the month, those answers accumulate, and schools across Ohio compete for the top spot. Mifflin didn’t just participate—they led.

A Competition Built on Consistency

The Prodigy State Challenge is a nationwide, month-by-month competition for students in grades 1–8. Each participating school competes within its state, with rankings determined by the volume of correct answers submitted by students. What makes the format notable is that it rewards sustained engagement rather than one-time performance. Every correct answer contributes, meaning classroom habits, daily participation, and steady improvement all matter.

Schools are also grouped by size into tiers, ensuring that competition remains balanced. That structure allows buildings like Mifflin to compete on equal footing with similar enrollment schools across Ohio.

From State Champion to National Contender

By securing the March title, Mifflin Elementary has now advanced to the Prodigy National Championship, scheduled from May 1 through May 15.

The stakes increase significantly at this level. Top-performing schools nationwide will compete for a $25,000 technology grant, along with additional funding for school celebrations and expanded Prodigy rewards. The national event brings together top qualifiers from across the country—schools that have already proven their consistency over a full month of competition.
