The Jared Mansfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is offering a local scholarship with an unusually broad scope. It is open to students of any gender planning to attend Ohio State University at Mansfield, North Central State College, or the Dwight Schar College of Nursing in Mansfield. There is no restriction on field of study, which makes this one of the more flexible local awards available.
The scholarship is open both to graduating high school seniors and to students already enrolled at any of the eligible institutions. It is also renewable, meaning recipients can apply again each year rather than treating it as a one-time award. That matters more than it sounds. Renewable scholarships often provide stability that helps students plan beyond their first year.
Completed applications for the Jared Mansfield Chapter Scholarship must be postmarked by April 15. For details or questions, scholarship chair Joedy Studer can be reached at 419-631-1015.
A statewide award with a tighter timeline
At the state level, the Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution offers the Wings of Eagles scholarship. This $1,000 award is open to graduating high school seniors, including students completing a certified home school program.
Selection is based on academic excellence and financial need. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, legal residents of Ohio, and planning to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
Unlike the local scholarship, the Wings of Eagles award requires sponsorship from a local DAR chapter. Applications must be submitted to the local chapter by Jan. 31, which makes this an early deadline students should not miss.
Applications and additional details are available through the Ohio Society DAR website at ohiodar.org.
National scholarships move fully online
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution also offers a wide range of scholarships across many majors and fields of study. This year brings a significant change: all applications must be submitted online.
Paper and emailed applications are no longer accepted. Instead, students must apply through the DAR’s online scholarship portal at http://dar.academicworks.com. The deadline for national scholarships is Jan. 31. This shift to a fully online process may streamline submissions, but it also removes any margin for error with late or misplaced paperwork. Students should plan ahead and build in time for recommendations and supporting documents.
Where to get help
With three layers of scholarships and different requirements for each, it is easy for students to miss an opportunity simply because the rules blur together. Local sponsorship, deadlines that vary by program, and the move to online-only submissions all make attention to detail essential.
