ā¤ļø Community floods foster care system with love ā 6,500 cards strong
Why it matters:
For children in foster care, even a simple card can offer something profound: the feeling of being seen, valued, and remembered.
By the numbers:
- 6,500+ Valentineās Day cards collected
- Dozens of schools, churches, and local groups involved
- Ages of participants ranged from preschoolers to senior citizens

State of play:
The 4th Annual Valentineās Day Card Drive, led by Richland County Children Services and the Mansfield United Lions Club, drew a countywide response. Some cards were handmade with glitter and crayons; others were store-bought, filled with heartfelt handwritten messages. All shared a single sentiment: you are loved.
Between the lines:
The drive wasnāt just about craft supplies. It was about stitching together a chorus of community voices telling foster children, you matter. For many, itāll be the only Valentine they receive.
Whatās next:
Cards, along with small treats, will be delivered to foster children across Richland County ahead of Valentineās Day.
The big picture:
Richland County Children Services sees the card drive as more than a feel-good effort. Itās an open door: a chance for more residents to consider becoming foster parents or support children in care.
