Area Agency On Aging Hosting Senior Spring Extravaganza

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. will hold a Senior Spring Extravaganza on May 24 at 10:00 AM at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield. This event, hosted by the Area Agency on Aging, is held in recognition of Older Americans Month, and offers guests entertainment, refreshments, information regarding aging issues, and a chance to win door prizes.

The Area Agency on Aging wants to bring our communities back together again with the theme being Communities of Strength. This year, we want to celebrate our senior citizens with a drive-thru festival. Tickets are free and must be presented the day of the event. Tickets are limited. Local Seniors Get Assistance In Acquiring Fresh Fruit, Vegetables, And Honey

On Wednesday, Ohio District Five Area Agency on Aging announced the availability of the Ohio Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is three counties in north central Ohio — Richland, Knox, and Seneca.

Eligible participants receive ten $5 coupons to use a participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands.

This program helps low-income seniors access locally grown and fresh fruits and vegetables, while also supporting local farmers and those running farmers’ markets. More…

Mansfield Memorial Homes Has New Management Company

United Church Homes, Inc. of Marion has welcomed two senior living communities to its growing network of older adult communities.

In January 2021, UCH signed a management services and support contract with the Board of Directors of Community Care of Rutherford County (CCRC, Inc.) to support the operation of its 131-bed skilled nursing community located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

On March 1, UCHM entered a three-year contract to provide management support services to Mansfield Memorial Homes in Mansfield. More…

New Check-In Service Available For Older Ohioans

On Tuesday, the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) announced a free, daily check-in by phone service for Ohio’s older residents to ensure their well-being amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency and beyond. The program was announced during Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s daily news conference.

The “Staying Connected” service is open to Ohio residents age 60 or older who have a valid phone number. Those living alone in the community are encouraged to consider enrolling. More…

Socks For Seniors Goal Bigger Than Before

Nominations Open for Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame

Since 1976, 486 outstanding older Ohioans have been inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, including Mansfield’s Mary L. McDonald just last year (read that 1812Blockhouse post here).
