Richland Source Uses National Model To Engage With Voters, Candidates

Emphasizing that “elections should be about voters, not candidates,” local media site Richland Source has set out on a unique journey for the fall.

It’s a three-part path. First, it’s about listening, as Richland Source representatives convene voter meetings in each of Mansfield’s wards to allow attendees to share priorities and views on city issues during guided discussions. Second, it’s about moderating the conversation between candidates in the form of the Mansfield Mayoral Debate on October 17 at the Renaissance Theatre, using collected voter input as a guide. A Murder In Mansfield Is Coming To Mansfield

Mansfield’s historic Renaissance Theatre and local news outlet Richland Source will collaborate to host a special hometown screening of the documentary film, “A Murder in Mansfield,” on Saturday June 30 at 7:30 PM.

The documentary focuses on the notorious murder of Noreen Boyle and the subsequent trial of her husband, Dr. John Boyle, which captivated Mansfield for months and has since become part of local lore. More…

Innovative Local News Company Celebrates Anniversary

On Monday, Richland Source celebrated its fifth anniversary of providing Mansfield, Richland County, and now Ashland and Crawford Counties news and information.

When Richland Source arrived on the scene in June 2013, it rode the second wave of independent local online news launches across the country. “When The River Rises” Rises To Attention Of The Times

It’s referred to as “solutions journalism.” In some corners of the country, and with some media outlets, emphasis can occasionally be given to “…news reporting that focuses on the responses to social issues as well as the problems themselves. Solutions stories, anchored in credible evidence, explain how and why responses are working, or not working,” in the words of Wikipedia. The goal of the process is to create not only informed readers, but also those motivated toward “effective citizenship.”
