Candidates Sought For Vacant Commissioner Position

With the election of current Richland County Commissioner Marilyn John to the Ohio House of Representatives, the Richland County Republican Party Central Committee is now charged with choosing her replacement.

To that end, the Committee is seeking letters of interest and/or resumes for the position, which begins in January and the term for which ends December 31, 2022.

To submit a letter and/or resume, reply by December 18 to:

A screening committee will review responses and refer qualified candidates to the full Central Committee for consideration at a future meeting called for the purpose of choosing the replacement Commissioner.

Commissioners Hear From CSEA

In their ongoing series of departmental budget discussions, the Richland County Commissioners on Tuesday heard from and spoke with Janet Brock, Director of the Richland County Child Support Enforcement Agency.

Brock shared with the Commissioners that the department currently has 9,426 open cases with 28 employees. The number of employees has been as high as 39 and low as 23. More…

Commissioners Consider Budget Requests; Insist On Cuts

In its consideration of budget requests for 2018, the Richland County Commissioners welcomed department heads to their meeting on October 10.

Commissioner Tony Vero noted at the meeting that budget requests total some $35.6 million, and yet total revenue was pegged at $28.3 million. These figures contemplate a loss of $600,000 in income from the Medicaid sales tax and increased costs of $700,000 for benefits. County Considering Emergency Satellite Trailer

At its July 13 meeting, Richland County Commissioners heard a presentation by Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Bailey about agency efforts to obtain a mobile satellite trailer.

Such a trailer could, in case of an emergency, be used to provide a 1,000 foot radiation wi-fi hotspot for 30 simultaneous users. Currently, only three others exist in Ohio – two in Columbus and one in Henry County; the hope is to place the fourth here. More…

Commissioners Offer Partial Refund On Underground Water Leak

At a recent meeting, Richland County Commissioners took a middle ground on a request for a refund on water charges.

The matter came to light when Commissioners received a letter earlier this month from the Director of the Heatherwood Apartments on Laver Road, in which a request was made for a refund due to a purported water leak. This leak, which was shared was ongoing for some three years, resulted in an outstanding bill of slightly over $70,000. More…
