Time For A Flu Shot; Available At Local Clinics This Month

With the arrival of flu season, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is recommending that all Ohioans six months and older get a flu shot now. Flu activity usually begins to increase in October and can last as late as May, with cases typically peaking between December and February.

Every season the flu sickens millions of Americans, hospitalizes hundreds of thousands, and kills tens of thousands, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hepatitis A Outbreak Continues To Concern State Officials; Has Local Impact

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and affected local health departments are investigating an increased number of hepatitis A cases in Ohio.

This includes a number of cases in Richland County.

ODH has declared a statewide community outbreak of hepatitis A after observing an increase in cases linked to certain risk factors since the beginning of 2018.  Outbreaks of hepatitis A are occurring in several states across the U.S., including neighboring states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia. Pet Owners Urged To Vaccinate; Free Rabies Clinic On May 11

Warmer weather means more outdoor activities and that increases the risk of contact with an animal infected with the rabies virus. Incidences of rabies exposure usually start in April and continue rising through the summer months.

Richland Public Health has issed a reminder for all pet owners to make sure their cats and dogs are vaccinated against rabies. Keeping vaccinations up-to-date for all cats and dogs is important not only to keep your pets from getting rabies, but also to provide a barrier of protection for you if a rabid wild animal bites your pet. New Drug Take-Back Bin Now Located At Avita Ontario Hospital

Residents of Ontario, Bucyrus, and the surrounding communities now have additional locations to drop off unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through a partnership with the METRICH Enforcement Unit, Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ontario Police Department, secure drug collection receptacles have been placed in the main lobbies of Avita Ontario Hospital and Bucyrus Community Hospital. Flu Vaccine Clinic This Thursday

Richland Public Health  recommends everyone age 6 months and older get an influenza (“flu”) vaccine. This recommendation follows Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

The Health Department will hold a flu vaccine clinic for Richland County residents on October 25 from 10 AM to 1 PM.
