The Show Must Go On: Richland County Arts Organizations Face The Pandemic

One sector of the economy substantially and disproportionately impacted by the current pandemic is that of arts and cultural institutions. Across the country, and right here in Richland County, these organizations are trying to keep doors open and bills paid so that when the pandemic passes, they will have survived intact.

As we shared in a story earlier this week, the Richland Performing Arts Association alone has lost 25 percent of its anticipated revenue this year, which is approaching $500,000 in total. The Association has varied programming this year, introducing new ways for audiences to experience the arts.

In a Friday announcement on its Facebook Page, the Mansfield Playhouse, Ohio’s second oldest continuously producing community theatre, itself shared some difficult news. The Playhouse has decided to stop current productions until further notice and it is safe for staff, actors, and audience to return. This is its second such shutdown this season. More…

Ten Arts Grants Awarded To North Central Ohio

The Ohio Arts Council board has approved $12,067,366 in grants to support Ohio artists, organizations, students, educators, and public arts programming during its initial and major FY 2018 funding round. The 15-member board approved 635 grants when it met publicly on July 19 for its summer board meeting. 24 Hour Theatre Project On Tap

President’s Day Weekend this February will feature a unique opportunity for high school students interested in the arts, thanks to the Mid Ohio Educational Service Center.

From playwriting, acting, and directing to set design and working with a technical crew, students will learn the gamut of what it takes to put on a theatre production in just 24 hours. The result be students developing, directing,and acting in their own productions. More…

Renaissance Performing Arts Makes New Building Announcement

In its regular podcast posted on Thursday, Renaissance Performing Arts announced the acquisition and upcoming renovation of a two story building at 166 Park Avenue West. Speaking about the project was Renaissance President and CEO Mike Miller and Chairman of the Board of the Renaissance, Rand Smith.
