Gamers know well that timing is the key. Moves have to be made at just the right moment to score the maximum number of points or to defeat the monster in a “boss battle.”
Speaking of timing, at the same time that Mansfield City Schools is looking to create an esports experience for high school and possible middle school aged youth, the official association for high school sports in Ohio is making a major step in recognizing esports.
At a recent meeting of the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education, and as we shared in a post on January 17, the high school has seen the creation of an esports club and “…has had an overwhelming response and interest from middle school and high school students.” Our article continued, “This is an extra-curricular activity that appeals to a wide range of students, and for many their first extra-curricular interest. Mr. Boller sited several districts in the area that offer E-Sports and hopes to develop competitions between our area schools.”

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its second official weekly football computer ratings Tuesday. The computer ratings are released every Tuesday leading up to the final report on Sunday, Oct. 23, when 448 schools – the top 16 in each region – will qualify for the playoffs.
There are 711 schools in this week’s 11-player football computer ratings. The 72 largest schools are in Division I, while the remaining schools are divided equally in Divisions II through VII (approximately 106 schools in each division).
The top 20 schools in each region are listed below by division and region with record and average points. The football page at OHSAA.org includes an explanation of how the ratings are calculated.

It’s time to play ball! Well, maybe.
On Saturday, the Toledo Blade reported that the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is lifting its no-contact period for baseball, golf, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, and tennis, while spring sports seasons remain cancelled.
This will be effective on May 26.
In a letter sent on Friday evening, OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass attempted to clarify the situation caused with several announcements from Columbus and previous OHSAA statements. More…
