MOESC Board Meets To Discuss Facilities, Other Matters

On November 18, the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center Board of Governors met for their monthly meeting.

Members heard a facilities update from Steve Earnest, Mid-Ohio ESC’s Executive Director, among other business items. The presentation given by Earnest centered on updates to the Mid-Ohio Conference Center, Print Shop, and the Mid-Ohio ESC facilities. Virtual Academic Challenge Meets A Big Success

During the last week of October, Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center was proud to host opening Academic Challenge competitions in the new virtual format. Students competed as teams, answering questions about a wide range of topics including literature, fine arts, geography, history, math, and science.

On Monday, October 26th, 8 districts competed in a scrimmage as a “soft start” to the 2020 High School Fall League Competition. The first league night was November 2nd with two additional dates to follow.  A league Varsity and Junior Varsity winner is anticipated to be announced on November 23rd.

On Tuesday, October 27th, two districts, Crestview and Plymouth-Shiloh, with a total of 6 teams of 5th and 6th graders participated in a fully virtual “Throwback Tournament.” Leanna Ferreira, Gifted Student Consultant and coordinator of the Academic Challenge meets, said the kids adapted quickly. “As the tournament moved on everyone became more comfortable and tech savvy, such that our rounds became increasingly faster and we ultimately completed 5 rounds in the anticipated amount of time.” More…

Submissions Sought For Artapolooza

Painting, creating, performing and more. Area students are invited to share their artistic talents at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center’s annual Artapolooza festival. This year it will take place March 31st through April 2nd at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center (890 W. Fourth Street, Mansfield). Students from all area schools, not just MOESC member districts, are all welcome to submit projects for the festival. More…

Girls Who Code Club Forming

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) has announced that the first meeting of the Girls Who Code Club will be held on January 30 at 4:00 PM at MOESC (​890 West Fourth Street, Mansfield)​.

Nationally, ​Girls Who Code clubs are free programs for girls, broken into 3rd-5th grades and 6th-12th grades, that allows girls to be part of a group of supportive peers as they learn and use computer science to change the world. More…

Dust Off the Dictionary, It’s Almost Time For The Spelling Bee

Students around Richland County are studying hard because, as soon as winter break ends, the spelling bee season begins! The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center will again be hosting the Tri-County Bee on February 13th at 6:30 PM at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center (890 W. Fourth Street, Mansfield).

The bee will host the top 12 students from each of the Crawford, Morrow, and Richland County bees. The Richland County Spelling Bee will take place next on January 16, also at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center, beginning at 9:30 AM. The public is welcome to attend all of the bees. More…

Area High School Seniors Recognized For Academic Excellence

Megan Supron, a senior at Mansfield Senior High School, is Mansfield City Schools’ 2019 Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award nominee.

Supron and 15 other seniors from client districts of the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center were honored at the recent scholarship awards dinner at Mid-Ohio, 890 W. Fourth St. Each was selected on the basis of their academic success and school and community service. More…

Two Local Recipients Of Large Grants For Language And Literacy

More than $33 million was awarded Wednesday by the Ohio Department of Education to 46 school districts and consortiums of districts to improve the language and literacy development of our state’s children.
