Landmarks of Mansfield: St. Peter’s Catholic Church

NOTE: This is our traditional Easter Sunday post, which we are happy to share for the third consecutive year.

For the last 100 years, the 125 feet high towers of the landmark St. Peter’s Catholic Church have themselves done double duty, standing sentinel over the central part of Mansfield while at the same time encouraging passers-by to look in a heavenly direction.

The building sits near an intersection that has been home to a Catholic church and school for almost seventeen decades. The first local mass was celebrated in 1850, and the first church, purchased from the Presbyterians, was located on Mulberry Street just north of the current elementary school. More…

AugustFest At St. Peter’s

Why wait until October? That’s the question considering the upcoming St. Peter’s Parish and School AugustFest, to be held on Saturday, August 7 at the Spartan Fields Athletic Complex, 640 Hickory Lane.

This event, for adults aged 21 and above, will include live music, beer and wine, food, casino style games, and a corn hole tournament.

Featured music entertainment will be The Ohio Express, a north central Ohio favorite. More…

St. Peters Grad Named All-Academic NCAA Division I Track Athlete

Four Eastern Michigan University women’s track & field student-athletes were recently named All-Academic Athletes for the 2020 NCAA Division I Track and Field season Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Criteria for earning All-Academic Athlete status included a minimum grade point average of 3.25, having completed at least two semesters at the institution and have finished in the top 96 on the NCAA Division I descending order list in any championship individual event during the 2019-20 indoor season. EMU’s four honorees rank second in the Mid-American Conference, trailing only Akron (5). Overall, 20 MAC student-athletes garnered the prestigious honor. More…

Little Buckeye and St. Peter’s Partner For New Exhibit

Little Buckeye Children’s Museum has announced the grand-opening of their new St. Peter’s Parish Schoolhouse Exhibit.

This exhibit will open to the public on Wednesday, December 18, at 10:00 AM on the second floor of the Little Buckeye Children’s Museum (West Fourth Street, Mansfield). Make plans to come in for a first look at this Montessori-inspired exhibit remodel. More…

Cinderella Coming To Charm Mansfield

The Auditorium at St. Peter’s High School will be a magical place to be over the next two weekends, as the St. Peter’s Department of Theatre and Performing Arts presents the musical Cinderella. The music is presented as a part of the 2017-2018 St. Peter’s Music Series.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella was originally written for television, and starred a young Julie Andrews in the title role. Amazingly for the time, the broadcast had over 100 million viewers. St. Peter’s Falls In Regional Basketball Contest

On Friday night, the Mansfield St. Peter’s Boys Basketball squad fell in the Regional Finals to the team from Delphos St. John, 44-43. The game was played on the campus of the University of Toledo. Magnificent Brahms Requiem To Be Performed At St. Peter’s

On Sunday, February 26, St. Peter’s Annual Choir Program will feature the choir and musicians of St. Peter’s in a performance of Deutsches Requiem (German Requiem) by Johannes Brahms.

The marvelous acoustic setting of St. Peter’s Church will provide an ideal backdrop for this gem of the choral repertoire. Tickets for this performance, which begins at 3:00 PM, are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Admission for St. Peter’s students is free with their Student ID. More…
