The Leon Levy Center for Biography at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York is a meeting place for biographers to discuss the traditional and current theories in that form. The Center conducts a number of annual events to accomplish that goal, among which are lectures and conversations from and with authors of recent published biographies.

Publisher’s Note: As you have likely noticed, today’s 1812Blockhouse has a “food” theme, which reminded us of a story we posted this past April about a new biography of Louis Bromfield. As the book seemed a perfect companion for summer dining experiences, we are re-posting it here today.
He is well-known locally, to be sure. Nationally, and internationally, however, he is less of a household name.
That may change somewhat in the coming months.
Mansfield and Pleasant Valley’s Louis Bromfield is rushing back into the spotlight with the April 14 publication of what has been called the first major biography of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and conservationist. The 325 page work entitled “The Planter of Modern Life: Louis Bromfield and the Seeds of a Food Revolution” is a true page turner, according to reviews shared by Publishers Weekly, the Wall Street Journal, and on the website of its publisher, W.W. Malabar Farm State Park and the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library have announced the list of books to be read this summer at the Bromfield Book Club.
Taking place at 6 PM on the first Monday of each month at Malabar Farm, each month the Club reads one of Bromfield’s novels or books about the author. Each session includes discussions of that month’s book, guest speakers, and tours of the estate and park grounds (including snacks and light refreshments). More…

The Malabar Farm Foundation recently established an endowed fund at the Richland County Foundation.

Saturday morning brought clear skies, a bit of a crisp wind, and a ceiling of puffy clouds that created shadows darting across the north central Ohio landscape. When combined with a near-peak weekend for tree colors, what better time to head to Malabar Farm State Park?

The 40th Annual Ohio Heritage Days Festival and In the Spirit of Friends Antique and Primitive Show takes place this coming Saturday and Sunday at Malabar Farm State Park.
From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM both days, crafts, primitives, antiques, tractors, horses, food, and live music will be on view, as will Civil War and 18th Century living history camps. On Sunday, these will be joined by archeologiacal displays. More…
