Mansfield Man Charged After Allegedly Setting Racehorses Loose At Fairgrounds

It wasn’t a good morning for Jonathan Ford. Nor, for that matter, residents and motorists near the fairgrounds area in Canton.

Northeast Ohio media reported on Tuesday that Ford, who has a Mansfield address, set 15 racehorses loose at the Stark County Fairgrounds at about 6:00 AM Monday morning. According to this story from Cleveland 19 News, one horse drowned in a nearby lake. More…

Youth Opera Theatre Auditions Set For “Thespis” And “Hercules”

Directed by Lori Turner, the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre announces auditions for Gilbert and Sullivan’s operatic extravaganza, “Thespis,” the piece that gave the legendary duo their start, and “Hercules” composed by the Renaissance’s Artistic Director, Michael Thomas.  Audition Dates are February 9 from 11:00-4:00 PM at Theatre 166 (166 Park Avenue West), and February 10 from 12:00-4:00 PM in the Ballroom of the Renaissance Theatre. OSUM Students Start Book Swap To Cut College Costs

Buying books can be expensive. Every semester many students have to make a decision that may hurt their academic progress – buy all the books required or forgo the expense to save a little money.

Students at The Ohio State University at Mansfield have decided to try to help each other out a bit by attending a textbook swap. Kidron Stamper, who serves as the student member of the Ohio State Mansfield Board of Trustees, helped coordinate the event. “As the student trustee, one of my big tasks is to help with college affordability,” Stamper explains. “Classes already cost money, so I came up with this idea where students can trade books at the beginning of the semester to help cut their expenses a little.” More…

City Of Mansfield Seeks Public Input On Priorities And Needs

The City of Mansfield is in the process of developing a new Consolidated Plan for the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Funds (HOME) through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Plan will cover the 2019-2023 period and will identify the City’s priorities for allocating these federal grant funds for the next five years.

To that end, the City has created an online survey to gain citizens’ opinions on neighborhood and city needs. More…

Health Information Kiosks Installed At County Libraries

Richland Public Health, through a grant provided by the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, is providing internet-connected Health Information Kiosks at all Mansfield/Richland County Public Library locations.

The kiosks have internet-enabled Apple iPads in them that are pre-loaded to connect to National Institute of Health (NIH) websites. Each app on the screen contains information that has been verified to contain evidence-based information to help improve access to important information. More…

Flu Season Is Here

According to data compiled by Public Health Nursing at Richland Public Health, flu season has arrived in Richland County.

“We have started to see positive test results and hospitalizations due to influenza in the past three weeks,” says Emily Leedy, Epidemiologist at Richland Public Health. Numbers from December show 70 cases of influenza, and eight (8) hospitalizations. More…
