CVS Announces Closure Of 900 Stores; Fate Of Richland County Locations Not Known

In a Thursday news release by CVS entitled “CVS Health announced steps to accelerate omnichannel health strategy,” not all of the wording was so cryptic — particularly in reference to upcoming store closures.

It shared in part, “The company has been evaluating changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs to ensure it has the right kinds of stores in the right locations for consumers and for the business. As part of this initiative, CVS Health will reduce store density in certain locations and close approximately 300 stores a year for the next three years. The company is committed to offering impacted colleagues roles in other locations or different opportunities as part of its overall workforce strategy. These changes will begin in the spring of 2022.”

Park National Bank Closing Two Richland County Locations

Park National Bank, which continues to operate locally under the name Richland Bank, has announced plans to shutter two locations in Richland County effective September 30.

The move comes as Park closes 21 branches in 13 Ohio counties, as well as a location in North Carolina.

Locally, the impacted banking operations will be in Butler and inside the Kroger Marketplace on Lexington Avenue. More…

JCPenney Closing 154 Stores This Summer; Richland Mall Location Not Included

In early May, we shared the news that the JCPenney Company was possibly closing up to one-quarter of its stores across the country in face of ongoing challenges and the impact of COVID-19.

This past week, the first stage in that process began with the announced closure of 154 JCPenney locations. The location at Richland Mall was not among them.

A release shared by the company on Thursday stated that the choice of which stores to close came “Following a comprehensive evaluation of its retail footprint and a careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the company.” More…

JCPenney Declaring Bankruptcy; Possibly Closing One Quarter Of Stores

Reuters and other sources reported over the weekend that JCPenney is planning to declare bankruptcy and is considering closing 200 of its stores.

According to the Reuters article, which can be accessed here, the current woes of the retailer are tied to the coronavirus pandemic, although there were operating concerns before that.

JC Penney traces its origins back to 1902, when James Cash Penney opened his first store in Kemmerer, Wyoming. More…

Payless ShoeSource Closing All Remaining Stores

It was announced on Friday from many sources that Payless ShoeSource is closing all remaining retail locations, a decision which impacts over 2,000 stores — including the location in Ontario.

The company will be holding liquidation sales starting on Sunday in most locations, and all operations are set to be finished by May. The online, e-commerce version of Payless will be shuttered as well. More…
