179th Airlift Wing Chaplain Is A Woman Making History

As leadership drives home the need for diversity, “the goal to reach 30% is very do-able” said the first female commander at the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, Col. Allison C. Miller as she discussed the population of women in the military. Looking across the sea of faces working at her Ohio Air National Guard Unit, she noted that female members nearly reach 25% of the 1100 personnel and 19% throughout the Air Force.

179th Airmen Of The Year Named

Five airmen have been selected to represent the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield as Airmen of the Year in their rank respective categories. The winners went on to compete at the 2017 Ohio Air National Guard Outstanding Airmen of the Year (OAY) awards banquet to honor the nominees from units across the state, Jan. 6 at the Courtyard Marriott, where one member of the 179 AW was selected to represent the State of Ohio at the National Guard Bureau level competition against all Guardsmen from all states and territories for the Outstanding Airman of the Year Program.

Each year, the most outstanding performers are recognized throughout the United States Air Force and Air National Guard for demonstrating superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements. More…

Colonel Allison Miller To Head 179th Airlift Wing; First Woman In Ohio To Do So

A decorated pilot and 20-year veteran of the National Guard will become the first woman to lead an Ohio Air National Guard wing. Col. Allison Miller takes command of the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield during an official change of command ceremony at 2 PM on Sunday, January 21 at the Mansfield Lahm Air National Guard Base.

Miller is currently the director of safety for the Air National Guard, and will be replacing Col. James Camp, who became the Ohio assistant adjutant general for Air on December 29, 2017. More…

Photos From A Commander’s Farewell And Final Flight

Members of the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield gathered to offer congratulations and farewells to 179th AW Commander Col. James R. Camp on December 5. Camp took his final flight in the military in a C-130H Hercules before he continues to lead the Ohio Air National Guard as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air.

179th Commander Named New Ohio Assistant Adjutant General

On Monday, Maj. Gen. Mark E. Bartman, Ohio adjutant general, announced that Col. James R. Camp has been named the new Ohio assistant adjutant general for Air.

In his new role, Camp will be responsible for directing Air National Guard operations and establishing policy to ensure mission readiness of more than 4,900 personnel assigned to four flying wings and six geographically separated support units. Camp will be replacing Brig. Gen. Gregory Schnulo, who retired October 1. More…

Identical Twins Serve In the 179th Airlift Wing

Raven Hull, a personalist for the 179th Airlift Wing, and Sable (Lakota) Hull, a medical administrator also at the 179th AW are identical twins serving in the Air National Guard.

With long black hair and tan skin, Raven and Lakota are a real life carbon copy of each other. They have similar mannerisms, many of the same friends and even sound alike when speaking. Telling them apart can seem impossible. More…

179th Participating In European Exercises

The U.S. Air Force, along with air forces from Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic, is participating in the Hungarian Air Force-hosted exercise Load Diffuser 17 through early June.

About 200 Airmen, including crews to support eight F-16C Fighting Falcons from the 180th Fighter Wing in Swanton, Ohio and two C-130H Hercules from the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, Ohio, are participating in the exercise. More…

Commission Reportedly Chooses Lahm Project for Funding

Sources reported last week that the Ohio Military Facilities Commission approved only two requests for funding at their recent meeting.

According to the Dayton Business Journal, one of those projects was a $4 million taxiway relocation at Mansfield Lahm, done to support the 179th Airlift Wing. More…

179th Returns From Africa

On Tuesday, the 179th Airlift Wing returned to Mansfield via a C-130H Hercules. The unit had spent a month supporting Operation Flintlock in Africa, an annual regional exercise among African, allied and U.S. counterterrorism forces.

A majority of the members are from the 164th Airlift Squadron and flew the C-130H Hercules aircraft as part of the exercise. More…

179th Airlift Wing Hosts 17th Annual Chili Cook-Off

The 179th Airlift Wing, Mansfield, Ohio, hosted their 17th annual chili cook-off Nov. 16 at the base’s dining facility. This event is held each year in order to promote the Combined Federal Campaign and all the proceeds will go to the CFC.

According to the CFC website, the CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with almost 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and overseas raising millions of dollars each year. Pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season that starts Sept. 1 lasting through Dec.15, support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. 179th Hosts Pilot For A Day With Childrens Hospital and Make-A-Wish Foundation

The 179th Airlift Wing hosted Agustin “AGU” Cal as an honorary “Pilot for a Day” on September 27 at their base in Mansfield Agustin was given the honorary rank and treatment of a colonel and an honorary lifetime membership to the 164th Airlift Squadron. The 179th Airlift Wing worked with Nationwide Children’s Hospital and their Make-A-Wish Foundation to make this day possible.

The Pilot for a Day Program is new to the 179th Airlift Wing and Agustin was the second child to participate. The program provides a fun-filled day for children and young adults living with chronic or life threatening diseases. Agustin and his family arrived at the 164th Airlift Squadron early Tuesday morning to find the aircrew briefing room full of airmen awaiting his arrival. More…
