There may well be a new economic engine soon along the SR 97 corridor between Lexington and Bellville.

This morning, an announcement was made by the the YMCA of North Central Ohio to build a $12 to $15 million sports complex along I-71.

The facility would be built on land offered by retired industrialist James C. Gorman, the article stated, and the complex could include indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, and more, as well as facilities for outdoor sports including soccer.

The News Journal article, which has additional details and quotes from area civic leaders and is well worth a read, can be found here.

The nearest comparable facilities would likely be the North Coast Premier Soccer Complex in Lodi, as well as the new Fieldhouse USA building at Polaris Fashion Place Mall, both along I-71. The newest sports center in Ohio is the recently-opened Athletix in Columbiana (eastern Ohio near the Pennsylvania border).

That facility has a 34,000 square foot fieldhouse with a 48 foot ceiling, as well as a host of supporting amenities including an immersive golf simulator and a large dining and concessions area.
