This Saturday, November 9, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Marvin Memorial Library invites the public to explore a bustling Maker’s Market, a celebration of local talent, creativity, and community spirit. Hosted by The Friends of Marvin Memorial Library, this event will be packed with handmade crafts, seasonal treasures, and delicious treats, setting the perfect tone for the start of the holiday season.

The market will not only showcase local artisans and crafters but also offers exciting activities and a chance to support library initiatives, such as the library’s reading programs, teen advisory council field trips, and guest speaker events. With a focus on both creativity and community, this event promises something for everyone.

Discover Local Artisans and Handmade Goods

The Maker’s Market will feature a variety of local vendors offering handmade items, from crafts and jewelry to home decor and seasonal goods. This unique shopping experience provides visitors with a chance to pick up one-of-a-kind gifts and decorations just in time for the holidays. The community is encouraged to stop by, meet local artisans, and find something special that speaks to their seasonal spirit.

For any local makers interested in securing a vendor space, the library is welcoming more participants. Simply visit the Marvin Memorial Library’s front desk to pick up an application form.

Special Activities and Prizes

Adding to the excitement, the Friends of the Library have organized a “Blind Date with a Book” sale. In this unique sale, visitors can purchase wrapped books based on a few intriguing clues, creating a surprise reading experience for adventurous readers.

Additionally, the Maker’s Market will offer raffle prizes, with tickets available for purchase throughout the day. These raffles provide a fun way to contribute to the library’s fundraising efforts while enjoying the thrill of possibly taking home a prize.

Supporting the Library’s Mission

Proceeds from vendor entry fees and raffle tickets will go directly to supporting the library. The Friends of Marvin Memorial Library are dedicated to enriching the library’s programming and resources. Their contributions fund popular events and initiatives, including:

  • Summer and Winter Reading Programs: These seasonal reading challenges keep readers of all ages engaged and motivated, with fun prizes and themed activities.
  • Teen Advisory Council Field Trips: Providing young library-goers with educational experiences outside of the library.
  • Guest Speaker Events and Reading Contests: Engaging community members with special events and interactive programs.

Throughout the year, the Friends organize various fundraising activities that include Lobby Book Sales, Soup and Sandwich Night, and an annual O’Charley’s Pie Raffle. These events help the library serve as a vibrant community hub, offering a wide array of resources and programs for patrons.

How You Can Support the Friends of Marvin Memorial Library

One of the main fundraising efforts includes book sales, which rely heavily on donations from the community. Donations of new or gently used, like-new books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and magazines (dated within the last 12 months) are welcome and greatly appreciated. However, the Friends ask that donations do not include encyclopedias, dictionaries, textbooks, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or any materials that are damaged, moldy, or outdated. Please call the library at 419-347-5576 ahead of time if you have items to donate.

Anyone interested in supporting the library in a greater capacity can join the Friends of Marvin Memorial Library. Membership forms are available in the library lobby near the book sale shelves, and annual dues are by donation, allowing members to choose an amount that works best for them. New members are always welcome, and this group offers an excellent way to get involved in meaningful community support.

The Friends of Marvin Memorial Library’s Maker’s Market is a great way to start your holiday season with a focus on local artistry, community, and the shared joy of supporting a beloved local institution. This event, with its blend of unique shopping, fun activities, and dedicated community support, is sure to bring a spark of festive joy to everyone who attends.
