A Taste of Christmas At Kingwood

Paths were lined with arches of lights, and a family stood warming by a campfire. While walking toward the displays of Christmas trees decorated by area businesses and organizations, and housed in the Exhibit Hall and Greenhouse, a family of peacocks crossed our path.

Unemployment Figures Change Little In October

When October unemployment rate figures were recently released last week by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Richland County numbers remained relatively constant.

October’s 5.2 percent can be compared to 5.4 percent the previous month, and to 4.9 percent in August. The rate for the City of Mansfield showed a corresponding small decline, going from 6.3 percent to 6.0 percent. More…

Ohio House Honors Bill Hartnett

The Ohio House of Representatives has honored a former collegue who enjoyed a long and successful career in public service.

William J. Hartnett, who passed away earlier this year, was the subject of a resolution which was presented to family members last week.

Accoding to the website for Represntative Mark J. Romanchuk, “A former member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006, Bill was a resident of Mansfield, located within Rep. Romanchuk’s district. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and an educator, working as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in various school districts in northeastern Ohio. After leaving the Ohio House, Bill served as the state director of veterans’ affairs for Governor Ted Strickland. More…

Thanksgiving Night Brings Start To Holiday Lights Spectaular

It’s time again for the Holiday Lights Spectacular at Richland Mall. First presented in 2012 with some 85,000 lights, the display has grown to over 100,000 lights set up in the Mall’s west parking lot. The lights will be synchronized to music from Mix 106.1 FM and The Light 99.3 FM.

The epicenter of the display will be the top of the former freestanding movie theatre building. More…

Rehearsing Continues For Unique Musical Performance

As these photos show, rehearsals are currently underway for the performance of the Christmas Oratorio of Camille Saint-Saens. The music will be shared on December 11 at 3:00 p.m. within the glorious walls of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in downtown Mansfield.
