It’s September and festivals are in full swing! Kick off fall while the temperature is perfect! Plan a date night or a day out with the family. Whatever your interests, check out the Destination Mansfield-Richland County calendar for more events.

Festivals come in all varieties: experience the culture, the food, the entertainment and the fun!

  • Try out the rides and favorite fair foods at the 167 annual Bellville Street Fair (Sept 13-16).
  • Learn about Native American culture and stop by all weekend for interesting displays and dances at the 33rd Annual Great Mohican Pow-Wow (Sept 15-17). Try the fry bread; it’s a must.
  • Head to Malabar Farm State Park for the 41st Annual Ohio Heritage Days Festival, featuring ‘In the Spirit of Friends’ Antique and Primitive Show (Sept 23-24). This free event has everything from live entertainment, crafts and vendors, to a Civil War & Buck Skinners Camp and archaeological displays (Sunday only).
  • The Prairie Peddler Festival (Sept 23-24, Sep 30-Oct 1) draws artisans, woodworkers, weavers and musicians from all over the state. Stroll through the 100+ vendors and discover a treasure to take home for yourself or a present. Be sure to enjoy the live music and freshly made kettle corn.

Looking for something to spice up date night?

  • Celebrate Labor Day Weekend at Pleasant Hill Lake Park with Fireworks (Sept 2). Make it a weekend getaway; reserve your camping space, go kayaking and canoeing, relax with food and games by the lake or enjoy the Beats on the Beach free concert and DJ till the fireworks begin.
  • Prefer a night at the theater? Go to the Mansfield Playhouse for a night of laughter as the new comedy Noises Off! (Sept 8-9, 15-17) makes its stage debut.
  • Enjoy an elegant evening in white inspired by the writing of Ernest Hemingway. Kingwood Center Gardens hosts Fete en Blanc (Sept 16), a dinner party featuring French cuisine and laid out in splendor in the courtyard. Don’t forget to wear white!
  • Polish off your dancing shoes or cowboy boots and head to the Heritage Barn Dance (Sept 23) at Malabar Farm State Park. Swing your partner all night long and keep the spirit of fun alive.

How about a day outing with the family?

  • Stop for lunch and take a look at the Classic Car Cruise-In (Sept 7) at Der Dutchman Restaurant (pick up a game of mini-golf before you leave).
  • Take the kids for a brisk walk and support a good cause by participating in the Mid Ohio 13ER Half Marathon and 5k Fun Run (Sept 9).
  • See the antique truck and tractor pulls featured at the Buckeye Iron Will Club 20th Annual Tractor & Engine Show (Sept 8-11).
  • Fun at The Barnyard weekends start Sept 16-Oct 22, as this family fall favorite opens its doors for the season. Enjoy the corn maze, apple blaster, petting zoo and other special events still to be announced.
  • Cheer together for your favorite AMA Flat Track Bikes (Sept 17) on the dirt track at Mansfield Motor Speedway!
  • Engross yourselves in the arts at the Mansfield Art Center Mountain Tea Studios Exhibition (Sep 23-Oct 9), featuring the contemporary visual artists: Mark Flowers and Kristy Higby.
