This year we’re continuing our weekly look at unique events and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of Richland County. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Richland County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard.

Here’s a question for you. How can you experience nature up close, while at the same time having limited human contact other than those with whom you arrived? For animal lovers during a pandemic, it can be the best of both worlds.

An Ohio staple for generations, the 65 acre African Safari Wildlife Park is open daily in Port Clinton, capacity permitting. Visitors who choose to remain in their cars at the Drive-Thru Safari can still have the opportunity to see a number of animal species that are not native to Ohio.

For those who choose to do so, the Walk-Thru Safari adds a significant number of species to that list, from blue crowned pigeons to red kangaroos.

You can also experience the new Giraffe Encounter, a private giraffe feeding encounter that used to be featured at the park. Perfect for animal enthusiasts and Giraffe lovers alike, the Giraffe Encounter Experience will take Guests into the Park’s Drive-Thru Safari on foot to stand toe-to-toe with Earth’s tallest mammal for 30 minutes of feeding, unlimited photos, and fun.

Encounters are $65.00 per person, Ages 3 years old and up. Giraffe Encounter Ticket does not include Admission for African Safari Wildlife Park. Standard admission not required for the Giraffe Encounter Experience.

Giraffe Encounters occur daily, rain or shine, from 8:15 AM – 8:45 AM, for a maximum of 8 Guests per Encounter, August 19  through September 7. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, two Giraffe Encounters, for a maximum of 8 Guests per Encounter, will be available at  9:00 – 9:30 AM, and at 9:30 – 10:00 AM.

Encounters must be Reserved online and have the $65.00 per person ticket purchased in advance of the Encounter.

The Park encourages Guests to post Giraffe Encounter photos on social media and tag @africansafariwildlifepark , but most of all, the Park hopes you have a GIRAFFIC TIME!
