This year we’re continuing our weekly look at unique festivals, events, and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of the Mansfield area. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Richland County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard. There’s a fun place to celebrate the birthday this summer, and it’s an easy drive from greater Mansfield.

First Lady Lucy Hayes, with of President Rutherford B. Hayes, would have turned 187 this month.

To celebrate, the Hayes Presidential Library & Museum is bringing some of her dresses later this month that are not normally on display out of storage and putting them on exhibit for four days only in the museum, located in Fremont, just 50 miles from Mansfield.

Members are admitted for free. For non-members, admission is included in the price of regular admission.

In addition to displaying Lucy’s dresses, there will be special events on Saturday, August 25 and Tuesday, Augusut 28, which is Lucy’s birthday. These include:

Saturday, August 25

9 AM to 5 PM – Complimentary lemonade and treats and kids coloring pages will be available in the museum auditorium. Makerspace, an area where kids can create things, and a scavenger hunt for kids will be available in the museum. Kids receive a prize for completing the scavenger hunt. Members are admitted for free.
