It’s not every day that national news comes to town. Last Friday, National Public Radio did just that.
It’s not every day that a beloved film turns a quarter century old, however, and the community in which it was largely filmed comes together to celebrate that fact.
NPR sent correspondent Katie Blackley to our fair county to cover Shawshank25, and this past Friday shared insights into the event.
In a piece entitled, ‘Shawshank Redemption’ Fans Flock To Mansfield, Ohio For Movie’s 25th Anniversday, Blackley noted, “As a tourist draw, this is a big deal here, bringing in more than $60 million in just the past four years, considerable cash for this struggling economy. Director Frank Darabont and actors will return to Mansfield this weekend, joined by academics to celebrate “Shawshank” and its impact on both pop culture and cinema.”
