Starting today, the opportunity exists to really get “back to nature” right here in our own backyard.
For the 16th time, outdoor-related venues in the Mohican and Mansfield area are concentrating special programming in a single weekend. The 2017 edition will take place through Sunday. In total, eleven attractions will open their doors and welcome visitors to a wide range of educational and entertaining events.
This year’s participants include the following:
- Gorman Nature Center
- Malabar Farm State Park
- Mohican State Park
- Ohio Bird Sanctuary
- Mohican Outdoor School
- Charles Mill Lake Park
- Pleasant Hill Lake Park
- Wolf Creek Grist Mill
- Lowe Volk Nature Center
- Mohican State Park Lodge
- Mohican-Memorial State Forest
This year’s Weekend theme is “Ohio’s Pollinators.” Speaking on that subject and kicking off the weekend will be an educator from The Ohio State Unviersity Department of Entomology, Denise Ellsworth. Ellsowth will deliver a Keynote Address entitled “Gardening for Pollinators” during a Welcome Reception beginning at 7:00 PM at the Mohican Outdoor School. She directs the honey bee and native pollinator education program on the OSU Wooster campus. In this outreach position, she supports and teaches beekeepers, farmers, gardeners and others across the state through a variety of workshops, webinars, written materials and electronic resources.
