Catch a live show: January’s schedule is packed. At the Renaissance Performing Arts Association, the month kicks off with country and bluegrass multi-platinum-selling artist Joe Diffie (Jan 5) at the Renaissance Theater. Kids and adults will love the highly entertaining and educational show, The Wild World of Animals (Jan 12). The Richland Youth Opera Theatre brings you a hilarious update of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic, The Mikado, in RYOT: Hot Mikado with Marco Polo Jones: The Road to Shanghai (Jan 26, 27). For fans of musical theater, get your tickets to Sunday in the Park with George (Jan 18, 19, 20) at Theater 166. At The Mansfield Playhouse, catch Murder at the Howard Johnson’s (Jan 18, 19, 25, 26, 27), a suspenseful comedy of love and murder.
Get those stir-crazy kids out of the house: Stop in for Storytime for Kids (Jan 19) at Main Street Books. The Ohio Bird Sanctuary hosts Avian Encounters every Saturday in January (5, 12, 19, 26). Your kids and you will love Music & Movement every Friday at Little Buckeye Children’s Museum and Art Class every Thursday.
It’s time for wintertime recreation! Snow Trails, Ohio’s premier resort for skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing, is now open and has several events on the calendar. Don’t miss the Mid-Season Party (Jan 26) for a night of freestyle skiing and snowboarding, live music, and fireworks. The Happy Grape Wine Bar & Bistro will host Symphony Chug with Mark Sebastian Jordan (Jan 9) from 7-8:30 PM and Two Bit Hustler(Jan 25) from 7-10 PM. Hit the slopes then warm up in the Snowflake Loft with live Music every Saturday night (Jan 5, 12, 19, 26) at Snow Trails.
For a taste of the arts, The Mansfield Art Center has announced its 2019 exhibition schedule. In January, the gallery will feature “Scary Toys, Beasts, Bugs & Jugs,” by painter Chrissy Donahue and painter-sculptor Richard Donahue, plus “The Light of Freedom” by Karen Hampton, whose art tells stories of the African American experience (Jan 19-Feb 24).
