Experience the Thrill of Gold Prospecting
The Buckeye Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA) is once again bringing the excitement of gold prospecting to the scenic Clearfork River with the much-anticipated annual Gold Rush Days. Scheduled for Labor Day weekend, August 31st and September 1, this event promises a weekend filled with gold-panning adventures, family-friendly activities, and community fun at the GPAA Swank Claim near Butler. Whether you’re a seasoned prospector or a curious newcomer, Gold Rush Days offers a unique opportunity to dive into the rich history and hands-on experience of gold prospecting.
Activities for All Ages
The event kicks off on Saturday morning with a flag-raising ceremony and continues with a packed schedule of activities designed for participants of all ages. One of the highlights is the popular Common Dig, where attendees can learn the art of prospecting and experience the excitement of finding real gold. For those interested in more than just panning, the event also features a paid Metal Detecting Hunt, offering prizes such as rare coins and valuable items. Additionally, a Speed Panning Competition will challenge even the quickest hands. Kids can also enjoy a variety of games, crafts, and their own metal detecting and panning events, ensuring that the whole family has something to look forward to.
Community Spirit and Evening Fun
As the day winds down, the community gathers around a campfire for an evening of stories, camaraderie, and perhaps a few tall tales of past gold strikes. Free camping is available for GPAA members, making it easy for attendees to fully immerse themselves in the weekend’s activities. Sunday’s events continue the excitement with more prospecting, auctions, and the much-loved GRD Duck Race, where participants can cheer on their feathered contestants as they race down the river.
Supporting the Buckeye Chapter
Gold Rush Days is not just about the thrill of finding gold; it’s also about supporting the Buckeye Chapter and its ongoing efforts to keep the spirit of prospecting alive. Funds raised from raffles, auctions, and donations go directly to supporting the chapter’s activities and ensuring that this annual event continues to bring joy to the community. Whether you’re a veteran prospector or just looking for a unique way to spend the weekend, Gold Rush Days offers something for everyone. The event is a celebration of Ohio’s rich gold prospecting history, combined with modern-day fun and community spirit.
For those planning to attend, the Swank Claim is located at 1099 Cutnaw Rd., Bellville, OH 44813.
