1. 📣 Madison Township cheer team makes inclusion its centerpiece
The Madison Township Pixies have created an Exceptional Athlete cheer program where children with disabilities compete alongside peer buddies. The team includes eight Exceptional Athletes and seven buddies, and it tied for first place at a national competition in Indiana after coaches adjusted the routine to accommodate an athlete’s changing needs. The program is free for athletes with a diagnosed disability and accepts participants from age 3½ through their senior year. 2. 🫐 Lexington Blueberry Festival remains canceled
The main Lexington Blueberry Festival will not take place this weekend because flooding left Community Park unsafe for visitors, vendors and performers. Some online calendars continue to display previously scheduled festival activities, but organizers canceled the four-day gathering after inspecting the grounds. The Queen’s Luncheon will still be held Sunday for invited guests, and the Sunday Funday Parade is scheduled for 2:00 PM through Lexington. 3. US Revolutionary War history comes to life in Bellville today
A colonial militia re-enactor will speak at 2:00 PM today as part of the American Revolution Experience at the Ohio Genealogical Society’s Samuel D. Isaly Library. The traveling exhibit uses 12 display panels, three interactive kiosks, illustrations and primary accounts to introduce visitors to Patriots, Loyalists, women, Native Americans, Black Americans and international participants in the Revolutionary War. It is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 611 State Route 97 West in Bellville and will remain there through August 28. The exhibit moves to the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library on August 29. 4. 🕯️ Mansfield will honor lives lost to addiction Saturday
The second annual “Honor, Remember, Heal” overdose-awareness event will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday at 44 W. Fourth St. The free gathering will include addiction, housing and mental-health resources, along with a mayoral proclamation, memorial video and candlelight vigil. Live music, family activities, karate demonstrations and complimentary food are also planned. Organizer Erika Baum created the event in memory of her son, Cedric Timothy Bowman, who died from a fentanyl overdose in 2020 at age 22. Read the event preview
5. 🏎️ Mid-Ohio hosts a full weekend of amateur racing
NASA Great Lakes begins a three-day weekend today at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington. The regional motorsports organization’s event runs through Sunday at the 7721 Steam Corners Road circuit. Visitors should check with Mid-Ohio for the detailed racing schedule, admission information and any weather-related changes, especially with thunderstorms possible Saturday afternoon.
