The Ohio State University has reported record enrollment numbers on the Columbus campus and record minority student enrollment at all campuses.

The new numbers are part of the Autumn Semester Enrollment Report. The report includes key data about Ohio State’s undergraduate, graduate and professional students on the Columbus and regional campuses.

“A talented and diverse community is central to our goal of being a great 21st-century land-grant university. I’m delighted to see record high minority student enrollment across all campuses,” said Ohio State President Kristina M. Johnson. “It speaks to the value of an Ohio State education that so many students choose to join this university, believe in our mission and aspire to become Buckeyes. They will share a life-long affiliation with hundreds of thousands of other committed, caring and inquisitive individuals making a difference each and every day in a wide range of disciplines.”

According to the report, total enrollment at the Columbus campus increased to a record high of 61,677 students in 2021. That’s up 0.5% from 2020. Total undergraduate enrollment at the Columbus campus also increased to a record high 47,106, a 0.3% year-over-year increase.

All regional campuses saw enrollment declines, however, with OSU Mansfield having the second lowest decline in terms of percentages (see below).

Total minority student enrollment at all campuses and all levels increased nearly 5% to a record high 17,019. The gains were seen across student populations:

  • Total Hispanic and Latino student enrollment at all campuses and all levels increased to a record high 3,669, that’s up 3.4%.
  • Total Asian student enrollment at all campuses and all levels is 5,222, a record and a 7.6% increase.
  • Total African American student enrollment at all campuses and all levels increased to a record high 5,238. That’s up 4.5% since 2020.

The new first-year students on the Columbus campus are also among the brightest: 64% were in the top 10% percent of their high school class and 94% were in the top 25% of their high school class.

“We’re thrilled to see such a talented and diverse group of students joining the Ohio State family this year,” said Vice Provost for Student Academic Success and Dean of Undergraduate Education Beth Hume. “And we’re so proud of our staff and faculty on all campuses who work hard to ensure that all students are able to maximize their full potential.”

The university continues to educate the sons and daughters of Ohio. Students from the state’s 88 counties make up 43,190 members of the Columbus campus.

Total university enrollment is 67,772, a decline of 185 students since 2020.

As for enrollment at OSU’s regional campuses, those figures stood as follows in the Enrollment Report:
