The assistant principal of St. Julie Billiart School in Lyndurst, Ohio, has been selected to be interim principal of Sherman Elementary School for 2017-2018.

Michael Brennan also served as director of special education at the Catholic K-8 school whose stated mission is “to nurture and empower students with special learning needs.”

Brennan succeeds Michael Wallace who resigned this summer to pursue other employment. His hiring is expected to be approved by the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education during its meeting on Tuesday. At Sherman, Brennan will work with Monica Hubbard who was hired last month to serve as assistant principal.

Prior to joining St. Julie Billiart, Brennan taught third grade for four years at St. Barnabas Catholic School. Earlier, he was a Title I tutor in the Beachwood City Schools. He also served as an auxiliary police officer in the Mayfield Heights Police Department from 2005 to 2009, where his duties included juvenile diversion programs.

In his resume Brennan cited educational administrative achievements that include:

  • Facilitating all state and standardized online testing, including AIR/TIDE, Stanford and Third-Grade Reading Assessment.
  • Representing primary grades in the acquisition of new English Language Arts textbooks and formalizing the process for evaluating current and new textbooks.
  • Examining standardized testing data to determine goal progression and establishing new goals for reading and math.

Addressing all discipline issues as acting principal.

A graduate of Cleveland State University, Brennan received a master’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s in educational administration, both from Ursuline College.
