For the second consecutive year the Mansfield City Schools’ Treasurer’s Office has earned high honors from two national business associations.

Treasurer Robert Kuehnle and his staff have received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

“We are very pleased to receive these awards a second time,” Kuehnle said. “Consistency in accurate financial reporting is very important. Accuracy and full disclosure are the focus of our work every day.”

In a letter to Kuehnle on May 14 Michele Mark Levine, director of the GFOA technical center in Chicago, said the award was based on Mansfield City Schools’ comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). “The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment,” Levine wrote. “The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story.”

John Musso, executive director of Virginia-based ASBO International, also cited the CAFR for meeting “high standards for financial reporting and accountability” for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2017. “By participating in the Certificate of Excellence program, school districts demonstrate their commitment to financial transparency,” Musso said. “The CAFR informs parents and other stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communications tool for building trust and engaging with the school community.”
