The February meeting of the Board of Education of Mansfield City Schools brings with it a matter that such boards hope never come.

At the meeting, to be held on Tuesday night, February 16 at 5:30 PM, the Board will consider a “Resolution of Intent to Consider a Reduction in Force” for the current school year, and dealing with both licensed/certificated and classified staff.

The wording of the Resolution ties the action to the “…current and projected financial condition of the Mansfield City Schools District,” and more specifically about the “…projected budget deficit at the end of this current fiscal year.”

The proposed Resolution is a part of the process laid out to notify the Mansfield Schools Education Association of impending layoffs in a manner consistent with Ohio law and the District’s collective bargaining agreements with impacted employees.

Other items on the Agenda include a COVID Third Party Compliance presentation, looking at Board Policy updates and revisions, and a resolution to terminate the employment of Jennider McCollister. The Board will also consider whether or not to expand eligibility for substitute teachers to include those with associates degrees.

The meeting, which will begin at 5:30 PM, will be in-person in the Lowell T. Smith Boardroom. The public can view the meeting via the District’s YouTube channel.
