The Ontario Board of Education held its most recent regular meeting addressing key updates on district initiatives, staffing changes, and community contributions. The meeting focused on enhancing leadership, supporting students, and strengthening community ties.
Inspiring Stories from Students
Stingel Elementary Principal Kimberly Johnson, alongside third-grade teacher Amanda Secrist and her students, showcased the innovative Storyteller Society afterschool club. This creative initiative empowers young voices and emphasizes the importance of storytelling as a tool for education and connection. The presentation was a heartwarming reminder of the district’s dedication to nurturing student talent.
New Leadership for Middle School
To enhance administrative support, the Board approved a new position: Middle School Assistant Principal. Jordyn Eckert was selected to fill this role, bringing fresh energy and vision to the team. Eckert’s contract, valued at $75,907.20, reflects the district’s investment in high-quality leadership to guide students during critical years of growth.
Expanding Educational Support
The Board approved multiple staffing decisions to ensure students have access to the resources they need. New substitute teachers and staff were hired across various roles, and extracurricular positions were filled to strengthen athletic and academic programs. Notably, Trinity Spackey received approval to represent Ontario Schools in gymnastics while competing with Ashland High School—a testament to the district’s flexibility in supporting student aspirations.
Generosity Fuels Warrior Wishmakers
The Warrior Wishmakers initiative received overwhelming community support, with donations totaling over $6,000. Contributions ranged from individuals to local organizations, including $2,420 from an anonymous “Soccer Mom” and $1,522.36 from the OMS Penny Stall. These funds will help fulfill student dreams and foster school spirit.
Support for Athletics and Arts
Extracurricular programs gained traction with the approval of positions such as Jonny King as Winter/Spring Strength Coach and Maggie Love as Freshman Basketball Cheerleading Coach. Additionally, Kari Tarvin will receive a stipend for her role as a piano accompanist, highlighting the district’s recognition of both athletic and artistic contributions.
Community Engagement Through Facilities
The Board continues to strengthen its ties with the community, approving facility requests for Girl Scout Troops and parent meetings. This ongoing collaboration demonstrates Ontario Schools’ role as a hub for local engagement.
Looking Ahead
As the Board prepares for its next organizational meeting on January 14, 2024, the district reflects on a year of growth, innovation, and community collaboration. With new leadership and ongoing community support, Ontario Schools remain poised to provide exceptional opportunities for its students.
