The pace of activity will pick up next week as Mansfield City Schools prepares for the start of school on Aug. 21. Here is a schedule of registration and orientation events over the next two weeks.
August 8 — Malabar Intermediate School will have fourth-grade orientation from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Principal Andrea Moyer said incoming fourth-graders and their families will gather in the cafeteria to meet the staff and discuss expectations for the school year before touring the building.
Also on Aug. 8 the Senior High athletic department will begin selling season tickets for football and soccer.
August 9 — Registration and schedule pick-up for students at Mansfield Senior High and Mansfield Middle School will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 12 to 7 p.m. in the commons. It will continue on Aug. 10 from 12 to 7 and on Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ninth-grade and new student-parent orientation will be Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
August 10 — Richland Public Health personnel will be present on Aug. 10 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. to administer Tdap and meningococcal vaccines required for grades 7 and 12. Students will be required to present evidence of shots to received their schedules. Shots will cost $20 for the first one and $10 for each additional. The cost will be billed to insurance if a parent or guardian brings an insurance card or a Medicaid card.
School fees are waived for 2017-2018 except fees for rented musical instruments. Parents and students should bring the following to registration:
- At least three emergency contact telephone numbers.
- Medical insurance information.
- Doctor’s orders to administer prescription medication during school hours. If needed, this form may be picked up at school offices starting Aug. 1.
The middle school will have seventh-grade and new student-parent orientation on Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
August 15 — Malabar’s open house for fifth- and sixth-graders and their families will be 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Otherwise, Mansfield City Schools will be closed for districtwide staff training. All buildings will reopen for regular business hours on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
August 21 and 22 — Students in grades 7, 9 and 10 will begin school on Aug. 21. Grades 8, 11 and 12 will join them on Aug. 22.
