Another Year, More Tyger Art Winners

15 Mar , 2019

Mansfield Senior High School has continued its tradition of having several students among the state winners in the annual Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.

The works of eight Tyger artists were judged state winners from among approximately 11,500 high school entries at 15 regional competitions.

“We had a variety of winning entries – charcoal, pastel, collages and ink,” said art teacher Mindy Duncan.

Five Senior High artists placed among the top 75 in the state. They include Allison Martin, Hayden Mays, Somya Patterson, Noah Rueckert and Ty’Lheir Grose. Entries by three others – Alexciya Craig, ZaKiya Harris and Trevor Taska – were judged to be among the top 225 statewide.

All eight Tygers will have their work displayed at one of three sites in Columbus — the governor’s office, Rhodes Towers or the Ohio Department of Education — from April 22 to May 16.

Senior High’s regional winners at Ontario on March 2 will be showcased from March 16 to April 14 at the Mansfield Art Center. A reception for the regional winners will be held at the art center from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The 49th Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition was open to all of the state’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the Ohio Department of Education.

From the 11,500 regional entries, approximately 2,500 were selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the annual exhibition in Columbus.
