This spring, the Ontario High School Theater Department is diving deep into a world of wonder, fantasy, and heartfelt storytelling with its 2025 spring musical, Big Fish. Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the Tim Burton film, Big Fish promises to enchant audiences of all ages with its larger-than-life characters, breathtaking visuals, and moving message about the ties that bind us—especially between fathers and sons.

With performances scheduled for April 4 at 7:00 PM, April 5 at 7:00 PM, and a matinee on April 6 at 2:00 PM, the production will take place in the Ontario High School Auditorium. Tickets are just $10 and available online at olstheater.booktix.com or at the door (cash only).

🌟 The Story: Truth in Tall Tales

At the center of Big Fish is Edward Bloom, a man whose life seems to be one long, fantastical story—complete with witches, mermaids, giants, and love so powerful it stops time. But Edward’s grown son Will has grown weary of the exaggerations and seeks to uncover the truth beneath the tales.

As Edward’s health begins to fade, Will’s journey to understand his father becomes more urgent—and more profound—especially as he prepares to become a father himself. What he discovers is not just his father’s truth, but his own.

🎨 Behind the Scenes: Student-Led Magic

While the story may be filled with myth and magic, the real wonder is happening behind the curtains. Ontario High School’s dedicated student cast and crew are pouring their hearts into every detail—from hand-painted backdrops and whimsical set pieces to hours of rehearsal bringing characters to life.

“There’s something really special about this show,” says the production director. “It’s about storytelling, imagination, and the deep connections between generations. It’s emotional, funny, and visually stunning—we can’t wait for the community to see it.”

🎶 A Score That Soars

With music and lyrics by Broadway favorite Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, The Wild Party), and a touching book by screenwriter John August, Big Fish is both an emotional rollercoaster and a feast for the ears. Expect soaring melodies, toe-tapping rhythms, and moments that tug at the heartstrings.

🎟️ Don’t Miss the Magic

Whether you’re a fan of musicals, a lover of great stories, or just want to support the amazing talent of Ontario High School students, Big Fish is a must-see. This is more than a school play—it’s a full theatrical experience, brought to life by the passion and dedication of a new generation of performers.
