It’s a new voyage we’re on, folks, and like you, this pandemic is uncharted territory for us. We’re continually asking ourselves what is the most appropriate way for an independent local media site to not only accomplish its mission, but also to help others during a health crisis that has already changed the way that we live and work.
To date, 1812Blockhouse has:
- Followed and regularly reported on various state and local stories about the COVID-19/Coronavirus
- Created a unique Update page where we collect resource links for important information, several of which are regularly updated; information on changes in policies and procedures made by local government, schools, etc.; news stories from state and local media about the pandemic; social media posts for context; and more. That page can be found here and via a link on our homepage.
- Made our coronavirus content freely available to WMFD, Richland Source, the Mansfield News Journal, and any other local media that would like to use it for any reason. That’s what being a part of a community is all about.
Over the coming days and weeks, the nature and scope of the pandemic in Ohio will unveil itself. We realize that that will take place against a backdrop of few if any public events, closed restaurants and entertainment facilities, remote work, and social distancing. The risk of increased loneliness and isolation is there.
With that in mind, we are going to be looking for stories of courage, resolve, and community in the midst of it all. Those stories are already coming to light, and are certain to continue to appear. If you know of something along those lines — perhaps it’s a group formed to assist those in need — please let us know at: [email protected] and we’ll be glad to let people know about it.
We are also mindful of the fact that many of you will be home much more than usual, so we’re going to work on sharing some entertaining stories from our archives as well as some new tales. We may well have a trick or two up our sleeve on that.
We continue to be most thankful that you make 1812Blockhouse part of your daily reading. Continued good health to you, your family, and your friends.
