It’s almost press time! The Renaissance Theatre’s Richland Bank Broadway Series will present a fully staged production of Disney’s Newsies: The Broadway Musical July 28-29, and August 4-5.

Directed by Michael Thomas, Newsies tells the stirring tale of the 1899 New York City Newsboys Strike. With a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, songs such as “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,“ and “Santa Fe” have become much-beloved classics.

In a David versus Goliath-type scenario, Newsies tells the story of Jack Kelly (played by Ryan Shreve), a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life in Santa Fe, New Mexico, far away from New York City. Making a move to beat a competitor, publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer (Mike Miller) raises newspaper prices, which results in taking away the little profit the newsboys made. Kelley and his fellow “newsies” decide to take action against this ruthless giant. With the help from Katherine (Hailey Noll), a beautiful reporter, all of New York soon learns about the power of the “little man”.

In addition to the talented cast of local professionals, the creative team includes Kelly Knowlton, Music Director; Shannon Maloney, Choreographer; Jason Kaufman, Scenic Design; Brad Cronenwett, Lighting Design; Aaron Nicolas, Sound Design; Dauphne Maloney, Costume Design; Abe Swanger, Stage Management; and Nikolas Demers, Assistant Direction.

Tickets start at $15 and are on sale now at the Renaissance Box Office, via phone at (419) 522-2726, and online at MansfieldTickets.com. A limited number of $50 Family Four Packs are available for this production by calling or visiting the Box Office.
