It’s a parent’s worst nightmare – that their child might get lost or even abducted. Yet each day in America, 2,000 children are reported missing.

That’s a scenario that several Richland County police departments and other authorities do not want to see happen. They have combined to offer a Safe Surfin’ Child ID Kit event at Richland Mall in Ontario on Saturday, February 24 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The process takes facial photos, basic physical information, and digital fingerprints for each child, information which is then stored on a CD and given to the child’s family. The system automatically erases all information on creation of the CD.

Now, when information on a child is necessary, a family won’t need to look for school photos or other identifying information. They can furnish the CD to law enforcement which will then have a leg up on reuniting families.

The program will take place in the Center Court area of Richland Mall and comes at no cost to families.
